Controller Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all core accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, vendor relations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements, including profit and loss by location, consolidated cash flow reports, and performance analyses.
  • Maintain weekly reporting on sales, cash flow, and variances in collaboration with management teams.
  • Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators (food cost, beverage cost, labor cost, and prime cost) to ensure profitability targets are met.
  • Manage contracts and lease agreements, including renewals and compliance tracking.
  • Provide recommendations and execute cash management strategies aligned with partnership agreements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax and regulatory obligations, including payroll taxes, sales and beverage taxes, and business license renewals.
  • Maintain compliance with liquor licenses, state permits, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with external tax professionals to facilitate annual income tax filings.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to safeguard company assets and improve operational efficiency.

Controller Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within multi-unit restaurants, hospitality, or food & beverage industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic financial planning with hands-on accounting operations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex financial data in a clear, actionable manner.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for the hospitality industry and enthusiasm for contributing to a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
