We are seeking an experienced Core Network Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and growth of a modern telecommunications network. This is a hands-on mid-level engineering role for a problem solver with strong experience in network operations, troubleshooting, infrastructure support, and large-scale network solutions.
The ideal candidate will have experience working across Layer 1, 2, and 3 networking environments and be comfortable designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and improving complex network systems.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and support daily network activities across data, transport, and infrastructure environments
- Design, engineer, configure, and provision network services including FTTH, Carrier Ethernet, and transport circuits
- Troubleshoot network issues, identify risks, recommend solutions, and resolve customer-impacting problems
- Monitor and maintain network infrastructure and related support systems
- Support Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams with troubleshooting and provisioning needs
- Maintain accurate network documentation including diagrams, procedures, change requests, reports, and knowledge-base resources
- Create detailed implementation and maintenance procedures for network changes
- Analyze network performance, identify failures, and recommend improvements
- Develop automation tools and scripts to improve testing, configuration, monitoring, and network management
- Assist with evaluating and implementing new technologies and processes
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and support additional projects as needed
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in network planning and engineering within carrier-class networks
- 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and optimizing LAN, WAN, transport, and optical networks
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, IPv4, and IPv6 addressing
- Experience with routing and switching protocols including:
- BGP
- OSPF
- MPLS
- VLANs
- STP/RSTP
- LACP
- SNMP
- Experience with network troubleshooting, testing, and performance analysis
- Knowledge of Carrier Ethernet services and transport technologies
- Experience with optical networking, DWDM/CWDM, and packet-optical systems
- Understanding of VPN technologies, network security standards, and monitoring tools
- Strong communication skills with the ability to manage projects and present technical information
- Ability to travel and assist with equipment installation as needed
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
Certifications:
- CCNP and/or JNCIP required (or equivalent experience)
- CCIE/JNCIE preferred
- MEF certification is a plus
